Vanity and Greed

People passes by, hand in hand,
Unaware of the obvious, the demons in their backs,
Whispering, “one more, this is the last”
Giving in to temptations, losing their tracks.

Both arms carry the weight of their loots,
This is the last splurge, I promise,
But knowing better, they’ll do it again
Until the only thing left is nothingness.

Worship me, the demon says,
Give me your soul and a week’s worth
You’ll feel better, he swears,
As you pull out rubbish and more.

Packing, filling those containers,
And as the devil whispers,
More, get more, this is too little,
Their soul obeys and wavers.

Filling their desires to the brim
Of things the demon wishes,
Of things their polluted heart thirsts
Of things everybody sees.

Things they don’t need but desired
Giving in to vanity and greed
Neglecting the thing they mostly needed,
With many many mouths to feed.
